It is estimate that more than half of words in the English language are directly from French. It means English and French are considered the most connected Western languages in terms of sharing vocabulary.

    1. Déjà vu - The feeling of having already experienced the present situation.
    2. Fiancé/Fiancée - A person engaged to be married (masculine/feminine).
    3. Cliché - A phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect.
    4. Rendez-vous - A meeting or appointment, often romantic in nature.
    5. Sauté - A cooking term meaning to fry quickly in a little hot fat.
    6. À la carte - Referring to a menu where each item is listed and priced separately.
    7. Décor - The furnishing and decoration of a room or space.
    8. Faux pas - An embarrassing or tactless act or remark in a social situation.
    9. Entrepreneur - A person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.
    10. Encore - A demand by an audience for an additional performance or repetition, often used figuratively to mean "again" or "more."
